What could be better than Free Traffic?  Well that’s exactly what you get with Squidoo.

Alexa statistics for Daily Visits to Squidoo show that the number of Unique Page views per Squidoo Visitor is 4 pages.  This is terrific.  So, if you need convincing that you should have your own Squidoo page, there it is in black and white.

Well, the answer to that question is - It Depends.

If you are asking whether or not the Tags [Squidoo Allows You To Add 40 Tags in the Right Side Bar] will help you with Google and other search engines, the answer is NO.  Starting in January of 2008, Squidoo added “NOFOLLOW” codes to their tag pages.

There are some people who are still selling an e-book to Squidoo newbies promising great search engine results from Squidoo Tag pages.  It may have been possible a couple of years ago, but no longer - if you bought one of these e-books then ask for your money back.

These 40 Squidoo tags do help with internal Squidoo searches, so you should still take advantage of maximizing the available tags in the sidebar.

The way to get your keywords indexed by the search engines like Google is to use your primary keywords in your URL name, your module headings and dispersed throughout the articles you post in these modules.  You should also use your primary keyword to name all of the images you post on your lens.  Don’t “keyword stuff”, but do fit your keywords into your text whenever they can be used in a readable fashion.

Remember that it can take upwards of 24 hours for this to happen, so while you are waiting for the “green light” from Squidoo, go ahead and research some more about your topic and be ready to add quality information to your lens once it goes live.

Well, yes & no. They encourage you to make as many quality Squidoo Lenses as you would like, and they are free. However, there is a daily limit on the number of lenses you can create. If you try to create more than 10 Squidoo lenses you will get the following message…

“Hot dog! You’ve already started 10 free pages with us today. That’s the most you can make in a single day. Why not go give your existing pages a little TLC and make ‘em shine. Then, if you want more, come back tomorrow and make another 10!”

Just in case you were really motivated and decided to create a bunch of Squidoo Lenses today, you should know that the limit per Squidoo account is 10 lenses per day.

One of the best ways to get your Squidoo Lens noticed is through Lens Directories.  Lens directories are websites that are specifically designed to assemble Squidoo Lenses and put them into categories that make it easy to determine what each lens is about.  These links to your lens, called backlinks are thought to give pagerank and additional traffic.

So, if you are interested in generating more traffic, getting noticed by the search engines, like Google, and letting people know that your Squidoo Lens exists, then it is in your best interest to utilize these Lens Directories.  The more backlinks, the merrier.

I am going to be assembling a list of Lens Directories - those directories designed primarily for Squidoo Lenses in order to make it easier for you to find and link to these sites.  You took the time to build a lens or lenses - so take the time to get you lens posted into these directories.

Self billed as “a PR/Backlink Haven”.  At the time of this posting there were 1993 lenses on his list. The LensMaster, Craig, promises to “Comment and 5star/Favourite EACH n EVERY worthy Lens submitted here!”  Html is permitted, so you have a great source of Backlinks here.

Lens Master World

Primarily a pay-to-play Lens Directory. The more you pay, the higher your spot in the directory and the more features that you are provided. There is a free listing option available that is limited and requires a reciprocal link from your lens to the directory. Take a look, but know that there are lots of totally free lens directories available for you to promote your Squidoo lenses.

FeedBurner makes it possible to add some HTML code to any Squidoo Module where HTML code is permitted and to display a rotating headline of 5 of your lenses [actually the last 5 feeds created in your FeedBurner account].

What will you need in order to do this?

1. A Squidoo Account - you know that Squidoo Accounts are free.
2. A FeedBurner Account - FeedBurner Accounts are free also.

In your FeedBurner Account in the “Burn A Feed” box, you would enter this URL:

“http://www.squidoo.com/xml/syndicate_lensmaster/USERNAME“  Where USERNAME is the name you chose when you created your Squidoo account.  Remember not to include the Quotation Marks when you enter the URL.

After your feed has been created, choose the “Publicize” tab and then select “Headline Animator”.  There are numerous options that you can choose to vary the look of the box that you see above.  The only thing I did was to change the name that appears in green.  But, feel free to play with it all you want.

When you have your FeedBurner “Headline Animator” looking the way you want, click on the “Activate” button at the bottom of the page.  The next page will contain a drop down box - where you can choose to get HTML to post in your Squidoo Module.  Just copy and paste the HTML code provided and place where you would like the box to appear.
